Pope Leo XIV is gradually recovering after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his lung. The Vatican head underwent the procedure on Tuesday and reportedly began walking and performing breathing exercises by Wednesday. Doctors also confirmed that he was following a regular diet. According to the medical team, X-rays and blood test results indicate that his recovery following the surgery is progressing smoothly.
The 71-year-old pontiff has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, a common type of lung cancer. Further medical tests are still required to determine whether the disease has spread to other parts of his body. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the successful surgery and wished Pope Leo XIV a speedy and complete recovery.
