Polish woman Dominika Patalas Kalra has captured the attention of social media users with a humorous post about her experiences of living in India. Sharing an Instagram post titled “Things I can do only in India,” she described several everyday experiences that she believes are uniquely Indian.
Dominika said she comfortably addresses even strangers as bhaiya, didi, uncle or aunty. When she does not know the route to a place, she prefers asking a stranger on the road for directions and says she sometimes trusts their guidance more than Google Maps. She also joked that she cannot refuse food offered by neighbours because doing so may be considered disrespectful.
Her list also included familiar aunties commenting on her personal life, career, marriage, weight and future. She said she simply laughs it off as a normal part of social interaction. She also noted how easily people welcome visitors into their homes and how she can trust an auto driver after just a brief conversation.
Dominika further highlighted her love for Indian street food, saying she enjoys eating at roadside stalls despite cleanliness concerns, while joking that she suddenly becomes a food-safety expert when abroad. She also described drinking tea from a glass at a small roadside shop as an experience comparable to being at a five-star hotel.
She added that Indian weddings make it easy for her to mingle with people she barely knows and behave like a member of the family. Her final observation was about the familiar “I’ve just left, I’ll be there in five minutes” response, even when the person is still getting ready at home.
The post received a warm response from netizens. Many users said her observations were accurate, with some joking that she had become eligible to apply for an Aadhaar card. Others thanked her for expressing her appreciation for Indian culture and said that following these habits meant she had practically become an Indian.
