PM Modi’s Strong Warning on Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message on terrorism at the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He said terrorism cannot be treated as a strategic asset under any circumstances and called for dismantling the entire ecosystem that supports it, including financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens. Modi also stressed that there should be no room for double standards in the global fight against terrorism.

Modi said countries that use terrorism as an instrument of policy or provide shelter and support to terrorists must be sent a strong message. His remarks came in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other SCO leaders. Referring to the West Asia crisis, Modi said conflicts in one region can have wider consequences for energy security, maritime trade and global supply chains.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy rather than on the battlefield. He highlighted the humanitarian and global costs of the Russia-Ukraine war and called for peace. The summit was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders.
