Planning a Wedding in Sravana Month? Check These Dates

The auspicious Sravana month has begun, bringing a fresh wave of wedding celebrations. Along with religious rituals and special pujas, demand for weddings is rising across function halls, catering, decorations, photography, makeup, jewellery and clothing stores. Although wedding dates are available from August 15 to September 5, priests say the number of highly favourable muhurats is limited.

Function Halls See Heavy Bookings

Function halls are already witnessing a surge in advance bookings, particularly for weekends and holidays. Govind Reddy, a function hall manager in Champapet, said weddings have increasingly become two or three day celebrations featuring mehendi, sangeet, haldi and receptions, leaving fewer available dates and pushing up rents in some areas.

Limited Muhurats Add to the Rush

According to priests, favourable or moderately suitable wedding muhurats fall on August 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28 and 30, followed by September 3, 4 and 5. With no major wedding muhurats available until October 29 after this period, many families are trying to complete wedding arrangements within this limited window. Priest Ghantanna Sastry said families now consider not only traditional factors such as tithi, nakshatra and horoscope, but also the convenience of relatives and the availability of function halls. A bride’s father said his family finalised the arrangements during Ashada month to avoid last-minute difficulties and scheduled the wedding for August 22.
