PIL Filed in Supreme Court Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.. Probe Sought

A public interest litigation has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged unilateral decisions concerning the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The petition seeks to declare decisions, guidelines and software changes allegedly implemented without majority concurrence of the Election Commissioners as invalid.

The plea also refers to reported objections raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over changes to Form 6 and other SIR-related decisions. The petitioner has sought restoration of the original statutory Form 6 and an inquiry into alleged deletion of voters during the SIR exercise. The Election Commission, however, has maintained that decisions relating to SIR were taken with the approval of the Commission.
