Perth Mint Creates World’s Largest Gold Bar, Sets New Guinness World Record

The Perth Mint in Western Australia has created the world’s largest gold bar, setting a new Guinness World Record. Weighing an astounding 521.2 kilograms (approximately 1,149 pounds), the massive gold bar has been produced with a purity of 99.999 per cent. Guinness World Records officially recognised the achievement on July 9, 2026.

The previous record was held by the Emirates Minting Factory in Dubai, which produced a 300.12-kilogram gold bar in 2024. The Perth Mint has now surpassed that record. What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that the bar was made entirely from gold sourced from Australian mines. It measures approximately 90 centimetres in length and 20 centimetres in both height and width.

The manufacturing process was highly complex. Around 1.5 tonnes of raw gold was first refined and converted into numerous smaller and larger bars. These were then placed inside a specially designed mould and melted at around 1,400 degrees Celsius in a specialised chamber known as a “flameless casting chamber.” The molten gold was subsequently cooled in a carefully controlled process over several hours, eventually forming the single massive bar.

More than 35 specialists from the refinery and laboratory teams were involved in the project. Major Australian mining companies, including AngloGold Ashanti Australia, BHP, Evolution Mining and Gold Fields, supplied the gold used to create the record-breaking bar.The record-setting gold bar will be put on public display as part of the Perth Mint’s ‘Gold Tour’ from the end of September. The tour already features attractions such as a one-tonne gold coin and a live gold pour.With this remarkable achievement, the Perth Mint has once again demonstrated Australia’s technological expertise in gold refining and reinforced the country’s position in the global precious metals industry.
