Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the state government will shift its focus from population control to population preservation. Addressing a World Population Day programme in Vijayawada, he said changing demographic trends require a fresh policy approach. He stated that the government is preparing to launch the 'Children Are Wealth' initiative, emphasising that people are the greatest strength of any nation and the foundation of sustainable development.
The Chief Minister noted that more than 40 countries across the world are witnessing declining population levels and said Andhra Pradesh also needs to improve its fertility rate. Recalling past policies aimed at population control, he said the current situation demands a different strategy. Chandrababu highlighted the importance of women's education, human capital and balanced population growth, asserting that long-term economic progress and development depend on a healthy and growing population.
