Patty Murray Slams Trump’s 50% Tariff on Canada

Patty Murray Slams Trump’s 50% Tariff on Canada

US Senator Patty Murray has strongly criticised President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian goods following the breakdown of trade talks between the United States and Canada.

Murray argued that Canada is far more than an important economic partner for the United States. She described the country as one of America’s closest allies and warned that escalating the trade dispute could undermine years of economic cooperation and diplomatic ties.

The senator also criticised Trump’s approach to Canada, calling on him to apologise for what she described as years of unnecessary criticism, insults and attacks against the neighbouring country. According to Murray, the US should be working to strengthen its relationship with Canada rather than creating additional economic pressure.

The latest tariff dispute has added further strain to the long-standing US-Canada relationship. Higher tariffs could increase costs for businesses and consumers while putting pressure on cross-border trade and industries that depend heavily on the two countries’ integrated economies.

Murray’s remarks reflect growing concern in Washington over the direction of US policy towards Canada. She maintained that Canada has historically been one of America’s most dependable partners and that cooperation, rather than confrontation, would better serve both countries.
