The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, held a protest rally in Delhi on Sunday, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The peaceful march began at the NSUI headquarters on Raisina Road and proceeded towards Jantar Mantar. The protest was led by NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar.
The protesters alleged that 130 million voters had been illegally removed from electoral rolls, describing the alleged deletions as an attack on democracy. They tied bandages around their fingers as a symbol of protest and called for Jantar Mantar to be restored as a designated site for demonstrations. Delhi Police, along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, erected barricades and issued warnings. NSUI members who attempted to proceed further were taken into custody.
