Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has decided to strictly enforce the legal drinking age of 21. From now on, liquor will not be sold to anyone below 21 years in TASMAC wine shops, and those under 21 will not be allowed entry into bars and pubs. The government has introduced new rules for age verification.
Customers must produce proof of age such as Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, or Voter ID. Wine shops, bars, and pubs must mandatorily display boards stating “No entry/sale to persons below 21 years”. In case of any doubt, sellers can demand age proof from buyers. Alcohol sales in the state are managed by the government through TASMAC, while bars and pubs are run by private operators.
