Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has raised concerns over the current state of India’s education system. She said education in the country has largely become focused on obtaining certificates, while students often have to travel abroad to pursue higher studies and develop specialised skills.
Sitharaman said students in other countries have more opportunities to gain subject-specific skills, while such options remain limited for young people in India. She argued that universities should focus beyond certificates and provide practical and specialised learning opportunities so that students can build successful careers as employees and entrepreneurs.
