Nine Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at New Bongaigaon Railway Station in Assam’s Bongaigaon district during a joint operation by Bongaigaon Police and the Government Railway Police. Six were initially detained near the railway ticket counter, following which three more were apprehended based on information obtained during questioning. Police are verifying their identities, nationality and travel plans.
Police recovered six mobile phones, four Bangladeshi national identity cards, one Bangladeshi passport, three suspected fake Indian Aadhaar cards and five railway tickets from the group. A preliminary investigation indicated that they had entered Assam through a neighbouring state and were planning to travel to other parts of India for work. Authorities are investigating how they entered the country and how they obtained the suspected fake documents.
