

Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, will provide completely free heart surgeries for children from August 13, 2026, NIMS Director Prof. Rahul Devaraj said. The surgeries will be conducted under the leadership of Prof. Amareshwar, HOD of the Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Department, with support from doctors and technical experts from London, including paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Ramana Tannashuneni. NIMS has been conducting the free heart surgery programme annually for the past five years.
Children will be assessed through a walk-in system, with priority given based on medical need. After the required medical examinations, eligible children who need surgery will be provided treatment free of cost. Parents can visit the CT Surgery Office on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS, Punjagutta, Hyderabad, from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. No prior appointment is required.
