NHRC Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Videos Featuring Children in Political Content

The use of children in political content shared on social media has come under scrutiny after reports emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district. According to the reports, videos involving children associated with a coaching centre were allegedly recorded with political messaging and circulated on Instagram. The issue has raised concerns about the involvement of minors in political activities and the protection of their rights and privacy.

The National Human Rights Commission has taken note of the matter in the context of its broader concerns regarding children’s access to social media and protection from harmful content. The Commission has previously held discussions on safeguarding children in the digital space and has highlighted the need for stronger child-protection safeguards.
