New York Rent Shock.. Indian Woman Reveals the Reality of Living in the US

People often assume that working in the US automatically means earning a huge salary, but the high cost of living, particularly housing, can be equally staggering. Indian content creator and entrepreneur Khushi Jain, who lives in New York with her husband, recently revealed their monthly rent during a conversation with financial influencer Sharan Hegde. When asked about the rent of their apartment, she said they pay $10,000 a month, which is roughly equivalent to Rs 10 lakh. Hegde was surprised to hear the figure for their two-bedroom apartment.

Jain explained that apartments with modern amenities in Manhattan can command extremely high rents. She said that while searching for a home earlier, they could not find a suitable apartment for less than around Rs 10 lakh a month and eventually moved to another area. According to her, apartments in other parts of New York, including Brooklyn and Queens, can cost around Rs 5–6 lakh a month. The video sparked debate online, with some users saying cheaper apartments are available in Manhattan, while others pointed out that comparing US expenses after converting them directly into rupees does not fully reflect the difference in local incomes and living costs.
