Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Telangana State Women’s Commission. Along with her appointment, the state government has also named six members, as per orders issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Monday. The newly appointed members include Kasoju Shankaramma, Chityala Swetha, Shashikala Yadava Reddy, Sadalakshmi, N. Radha Bai, and Uzma Aashai Shakira, who will serve for a term of five years.
Shankaramma, one of the members, is the mother of Telangana martyr Srikanth Chari. The commission was originally formed in 2020, and leadership changes occurred after previous chairpersons resigned or moved to electoral roles. The government has now reconstituted the commission after the earlier term ended in January 2024. Vijayalakshmi thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and the Congress leadership, stating she would work for the protection of women’s rights.
