The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has taken a key decision to introduce a breakfast scheme for students studying in government intermediate colleges. The scheme will be launched on June 12, aiming to provide nutritious breakfast along with the existing mid day meal programme.
With this initiative, Telangana is set to become the first state in the country to offer both breakfast and mid day meals in government colleges. Students will be provided with a rotating menu that includes items such as dosa, puri, millet idli, and bondas, along with chutneys, sambar, and mixed vegetable kurma. The government has allocated an annual budget of around ₹180 crore, benefiting approximately 1.92 lakh students. The initiative is designed to ensure proper nutrition for adolescents aged 15 to 18 years, in line with the recommendations of the National Institute of Nutrition.
