The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has introduced another eco-friendly facility for devotees visiting Tirumala. While biodegradable and eco-friendly covers are already being provided for carrying laddu prasadam, the temple administration has now introduced jute bags made from natural jute fibre. The initiative aims to reduce the use of plastic and promote the interests of jute farmers. The bags are available in different sizes and are being sold through the Jute Corporation of India with support from the Central Government.
The jute bags are priced at ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹80 and ₹100, depending on their size. Devotees can purchase them from the Jute Corporation of India counter located near the laddu sales centre behind the Srivari Temple. TTD has already been promoting biodegradable covers in Tirumala, including special covers containing tulsi seeds that can eventually decompose in soil and allow the seeds to germinate. The introduction of reusable jute bags is another step towards reducing plastic usage and promoting environmental sustainability in Tirumala.
