Amid continuing tensions in West Asia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders reviewed the progress in India-Israel relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership between the countries. During the conversation, Netanyahu invited Modi to attend Israel’s Independence Day celebrations and proposed that he light the ceremonial torch alongside Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar. The invitation follows the pilot’s widely praised actions during an alleged cockpit attack aboard a Flydubai flight.
The leaders also discussed the latest developments in West Asia and stressed the urgent need to restore peace and stability in the region. Modi emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are essential to resolving conflicts, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. He also highlighted the cooperation between India and Israel in combating terrorism. The two leaders had previously agreed to take their strategic partnership to a higher level during Modi’s visit to Israel on February 25 and 26 this year. They have also remained in contact amid tensions involving the United States and Iran.
