NCB Brings Fugitive Drug Kingpin Virender Singh Basoya Back to India from UAE

Fugitive drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya, who was wanted in connection with a ₹13,000-crore international drug trafficking case, has been brought back to India from the United Arab Emirates by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Basoya had been absconding for nearly two years and was traced with the assistance of Interpol. Acting on an NCB request, UAE authorities arrested him in June following an Interpol Red Notice. He was subsequently extradited to India and taken into NCB custody. The case relates to a major international drug syndicate allegedly involved in the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics.

The development was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who described Basoya’s return as a significant step in the government’s fight against drug trafficking. In a post on X, Shah said Indian agencies would continue to pursue drug traffickers even when they hide abroad. The NCB has been intensifying its efforts against international narcotics networks under its global operations, with a focus on tracing major suppliers, financiers and alleged kingpins. Basoya’s return to India is expected to help investigators further probe the wider network and identify other individuals linked to the syndicate.
