Sharannavaratri, beginning on Shukla Pratipada of the Ashwayuja month, is considered an auspicious festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. During the nine-day celebration, the Divine Mother is worshipped in nine manifestations collectively known as Navadurga. These forms are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri. According to Hindu tradition, devotees worship these forms with faith and devotion, seeking courage, wisdom, prosperity, happiness, peace and success. Each manifestation represents a distinct aspect of the Divine Mother's power and spiritual significance.
Each form of Navadurga has its own importance and symbolism. Shailaputri represents strength and courage, while Brahmacharini symbolises knowledge, discipline and concentration. Chandraghanta is associated with bravery, and Kushmanda is worshipped for health and prosperity. Skandamata represents wisdom, peace and the blessings of motherhood, while Katyayani symbolises power and valour. Kalaratri is revered as the protector who destroys evil, Mahagauri represents purity and auspiciousness, and Siddhidatri is believed to bestow spiritual accomplishments and divine blessings. Devotees believe that worshipping all nine forms during Navaratri brings peace, prosperity and fulfilment of their wishes. Om Shri Matre Namah.
