Telangana State Women's Commission member and mother of Telangana movement martyr Kasoju Srikanthachary, Shankaramma, has appealed to the state government to name the upcoming Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospital at LB Nagar after her son. She said Srikanthachary's sacrifice for the Telangana statehood movement deserves official recognition and that naming the hospital after him would be a fitting tribute.
Shankaramma stated that the Congress government has been extending recognition and justice to the families of Telangana martyrs. She alleged that during the previous BRS government, she was unable to meet the Chief Minister despite several attempts and that Srikanthachary's birth anniversary was never officially observed. Recalling her son's sacrifice, she said Srikanthachary set himself on fire during a protest against the arrest of K. Chandrashekar Rao in November 2009 and succumbed to burn injuries on December 3, 2009, becoming one of the first martyrs of the Telangana movement.
