The mysterious death of Indian sailor Rakesh Chauhan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, in Venezuela has raised serious concerns. After his body was brought back to India, his family expressed doubts over the circumstances of his death, prompting authorities to conduct a second post-mortem examination. According to the Federation of Seafarers' Union of India (FSUI), the examination revealed that several vital internal organs, including the brain, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys, were missing.
FSUI stated that Venezuelan authorities did not provide the family with the post-mortem report or a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding Chauhan’s death before repatriating his body. Doctors reportedly said that the absence of vital organs made it impossible to determine the exact cause of death through forensic examination. FSUI has urged the Indian Embassy in Venezuela and the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure a transparent investigation and seek appropriate compensation for the deceased sailor’s family.
