Mumbai Ganesh Idol Collapses, Two Dead

A festive celebration turned tragic in South Mumbai when a 22-foot-tall Ganesh idol of ‘Bhuleshwaracha Raja’ collapsed during its arrival procession on Saturday night. The incident took place around 10 pm near Balaram Merchant Road in the Bhuleshwar area, as the idol was being transported from Byculla towards Bhuleshwar.

Two people died in the accident, while five others were injured, including two children aged five and seven. The deceased were identified as Sanket Nevshe, 33, president of the Bhuleshwarcha Raja Ganesh Mandal, and Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30. The injured include Vaibhav Ghenand, Pawan Chaurasia, Lavanya Ganer, Divya Ganer and Kunal Kashid.

Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel, police, civic officials and ambulance teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. A preliminary police investigation indicated that a welding support at the rear of the idol broke, causing it to lose balance and fall forward. An accidental death report has been registered and further investigation is underway.
