Moving Shiva Lingam.. Its Origin Remains a Mystery Despite Extensive Excavation!

The Dugdheswar Nath Temple in Rudrapur, Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, is known for a unique belief surrounding its Shiva Lingam. According to local devotees and temple priests, the lingam occasionally begins to move on its own. The movement is said to continue anywhere from an hour to as long as 24 hours, after which the lingam reportedly becomes completely still. The temple’s traditional account also considers it an Upalinga associated with the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.

Another distinctive feature of the temple is that the Shiva Lingam is said to be positioned directly on the ground rather than on a conventional pedestal. Local accounts claim that attempts to determine how deep the lingam extends beneath the ground have not revealed its end. While there is no established scientific explanation confirming the reported movement, devotees regard the phenomenon as a divine manifestation and visit the ancient shrine to witness its unusual tradition.
