The expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway into six lanes is scheduled to begin in January 2027, according to Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. He said NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav had conveyed the proposed timeline during their meeting in Delhi on Monday. The deadline for submitting tenders is November 11, 2026, and the next phase of the project is expected to begin once the tender process is completed. The minister highlighted the frequent road accidents caused by heavy traffic on the highway and stressed the need to improve road infrastructure and safety.
Komatireddy requested that the highway be expanded to six lanes, with an additional two lanes developed as service roads. He said the proposed improvements could help ease traffic congestion and reduce road accidents. According to a statement released by the minister on Monday, the NHAI chairman responded positively to the proposal. The expansion is expected to improve traffic movement and safety along the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada corridor.
