The main event of the centuries-old Tirupati Gangamma Jatara witnessed an overwhelming turnout of devotees in Tirupati on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees gathered at the Tatayyagunta temple premises, offering prayers to Goddess Gangamma while dressed in traditional disguises such as Bairagi, Dora, and Matangi. The temple surroundings remained packed throughout the day as devotees participated in the vibrant folk festival with great devotion and enthusiasm.
In view of the heavy rush, officials gave priority to general devotees for darshan and imposed traffic restrictions across Tirupati city to ensure smooth movement. The Viswaroopa Darshan of the goddess is scheduled at 4 AM tomorrow, while the famous “Chempa Narukuta” ritual will mark the conclusion of the grand festival. The Andhra Pradesh government is conducting the Gangamma Jatara as a state festival with official honors, preserving the rich folk tradition that has been celebrated for centuries.
