The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ programme across municipalities with the aim of making urban areas completely clean and hygienic. Minister Narayana inaugurated the four-week sanitation drive in Vijayawada by releasing balloons and later participated in road cleaning, divider painting, and plantation activities along with sanitation workers. He also interacted with the public while having breakfast at Anna Canteen.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the campaign is being conducted with the support of citizens and voluntary organisations. The first week will focus on cleaning roads and public places, the second week on drain cleaning, the third week on creating awareness about waste segregation, and the fourth week on public toilet sanitation. He stated that the government is also setting up waste-to-energy plants to make municipalities dump-yard free.
