US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is on a four-day visit to India, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi. The meeting reportedly lasted for over an hour, during which both leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, and critical technology sectors. India’s Ambassador to the US, Sergio Gor, stated that the talks were productive and also focused on promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier, Rubio arrived in Kolkata directly from the United States and visited the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa, along with his wife Jeanette. He paid tribute to Mother Teresa and later praised her humanitarian work in a post on X. As part of his India visit, Rubio is scheduled to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on May 26, which includes India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
