Manmohan Singh Should Be Awarded Bharat Ratna - Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in recognition of his contributions to the nation and his role in the formation of Telangana. He also sought the establishment of a knowledge centre in New Delhi in his honour. On the occasion of Manmohan Singh’s birth anniversary, Revanth Reddy unveiled his statue at Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District. He described Singh as a key figure in India’s economic transformation and said the issue would be taken up with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Revanth Reddy recalled Manmohan Singh’s roles as Reserve Bank of India Governor, Union Finance Minister and Prime Minister, highlighting the economic reforms introduced in 1991 under Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. He credited the liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation reforms with helping India recover from an economic crisis. He also referred to the Right to Education Act, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and the 2013 land acquisition and rehabilitation legislation as significant measures associated with the Congress-led government. The Chief Minister said preserving Singh’s legacy would help inspire future generations.
