Malaria Tablets Trigger Illness in Polavaram District

Medical treatment is continuing for people who fell ill after reportedly experiencing adverse effects from malaria tablets in Gollaguppa tribal village of Etapaka mandal in Polavaram district. As a precautionary measure, 23 people undergoing treatment at the Lakshmipuram Primary Health Centre in Andhra Pradesh were shifted to the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital in Telangana. With their transfer, a total of 52 patients are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Polavaram District Collector Dinesh Kumar visited the hospital in the morning and spoke to the affected people. He said the health condition of those undergoing treatment is currently stable.

The Collector urged people not to panic and said the state government and district administration are closely monitoring the situation. A seven-year-old girl, Madivi Jamuna, died in the incident. She was a Class II student at a GPS school. A special medical camp has been set up in Gollaguppa, where medical examinations are continuing. Three specialised medical teams from the state level, Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram are providing services in the village. In addition, three paediatricians are monitoring the health of children. Officials are conducting medical examinations for those in need and identifying newly affected people for immediate treatment.
