Major action over alleged corruption charges

A major development has emerged in the August 2024 RG Kar case, with former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, along with Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta, being suspended over their alleged roles in the case, including accusations of offering bribes to the victim’s family.

The decision was announced by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari during a public address, as the newly formed government moved to fulfil its election promise after ending the 15-year rule of the TMC in West Bengal. Meanwhile, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in the case, while the CBI investigation into alleged tampering of evidence is still ongoing.
