Senior Supreme Court lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani has made fresh allegations concerning the Congress and The Indian Express. In a post on X, Jethmalani claimed that the Congress paid ₹81 lakh to the newspaper during the West Bengal elections and shared what he described as financial records, stating that further disclosures would follow. The allegation has not been independently established by the material available here.
Jethmalani also criticised recent reporting by The Indian Express concerning alleged differences between Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the other Election Commissioners. He questioned the reports and argued that the Opposition subsequently used the issue to demand action against the CEC. The Indian Express has separately reported on dissent and internal disagreements within the Election Commission over issues connected to electoral-roll revisions.
