The India Meteorological Department has stated that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the Gulf of Mannar near Sri Lanka. Due to its influence, a low pressure area is likely to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal on May 11. Weather officials said the system may strengthen into a depression after May 13 while moving towards the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts. Some weather models are also predicting the possibility of it intensifying further into a cyclone.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the impact of the system could bring heavy rains to Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions on May 14 and 15. Thunderstorms and scattered rains are also likely in several districts across the state. Officials said light to moderate rainfall may occur in Manyam, Alluri, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.
