Looters Leave Books Untouched Despite Stealing PS5s

Violence at Lovely Professional University’s Uni Mall in Phagwara, Punjab, during the night of September 26–27 led to the looting and vandalism of several shops. PS5 gaming consoles, mobile phones, laptops, expensive perfumes and lakhs of rupees in cash were reportedly stolen. Glass counters were smashed and shelves were emptied, while even phones left by customers for repairs were taken.

Interestingly, shops selling books and stationery were reportedly left untouched. Shopkeepers estimated losses running into tens of lakhs, with one departmental store manager putting his store’s total loss at around ₹80–90 lakh, including ₹6–7 lakh in missing cash. Viral videos showed masked individuals carrying away goods, while the university is examining CCTV footage and scrutinising around 30–40 students as part of its inquiry.
