A video featuring Chhattisgarh IPS officer Ankita Sharma has attracted widespread attention on social media during the Dussehra festivities. According to reports, Sharma participated in the traditional weapons worship ceremony at the Rajnandgaon police lines, wearing a saree instead of her usual police uniform. After the ceremony, she reportedly handled an AK-47 assault rifle and fired it as part of the event. The video has drawn attention because of the contrast between her traditional attire and her handling of the firearm.
The footage has received mixed reactions online. While some users praised Sharma’s confidence and weapon-handling skills, others questioned whether firing outside a designated shooting range complied with appropriate firearm-safety practices. Ankita Sharma is a 2018-batch IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre. Reports state that she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in her third attempt, securing All India Rank 203 in 2017. She has served in several policing roles in Chhattisgarh, including as Superintendent of Police in Khairagarh, where she was reported to be the district’s first woman SP. The circumstances surrounding the firing and the safety arrangements at the event have not been independently verified here.
