KTR Slams Congress Over Alleged Attack on Women BRS MLAs

BRS working president KTR accused the Congress government in Telangana of targeting women legislators, even as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi speaks about the need for women to overcome male dominance and take a greater role in politics. Questioning whether holding women by the throat and pulling their hair amounted to “Praja Palana” or “Indiramma Rajyam”, KTR demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy take responsibility for the alleged treatment of women BRS MLAs and apologise. He said the BRS would continue its protest until the Chief Minister apologised. KTR also alleged that the government was attempting to divert attention from the incident involving women legislators by attributing remarks to BRS MLC Tatha Madhu that he did not make. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, he said Congress MPs and Rahul Gandhi had previously participated in protests wearing similar T-shirts in Parliament without being stopped. He also demanded that the government hold a discussion on the Dalit Declaration during the ongoing Assembly session if it was genuinely committed to the welfare of Dalits.

BRS legislature party deputy leader Harish Rao also launched a sharp attack on the government, alleging that BRS legislators were prevented from raising issues concerning the six guarantees, 420 promises, pensions, fee reimbursement, farmers, teachers and employees. He alleged that police personnel forcibly removed BRS MLAs from the Assembly premises and behaved harshly with women legislators. BRS MLAs Jagadish Reddy and Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, who were injured during the scuffle near the Assembly, were taken to NIMS for treatment. Meanwhile, cases were reportedly registered at the Saifabad police station against KTR, Harish Rao, MLA Sudheer Reddy and others over allegations of assaulting and abusing police personnel during the protests. BRS MLC Tatha Madhu, however, said he had no intention of insulting the Speaker. He stated that if his remarks were interpreted as being directed at the Speaker, he was withdrawing them and expressing regret, while reiterating his respect for the Speaker and Legislative Council Chairman.
