Krishna River Board Meeting Ends Without Consensus on Water Sharing

The Krishna River Management Board’s three-member committee meeting concluded without a consensus between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the allocation of Krishna water. Telangana sought a 50:50 sharing ratio for drinking water, citing El Niño conditions and the need to ensure adequate supplies. Telangana officials also raised concerns over water being drawn through projects such as Pothireddypadu and Veligonda.

Andhra Pradesh maintained that water should continue to be released in the existing 66:34 ratio and sought 104 TMC of water until August next year. Telangana reportedly sought 200 TMC, while Andhra Pradesh opposed the proposal as unreasonable. Both sides presented their positions, and the matter will be taken up for detailed discussion at the full board meeting scheduled for the fourth week of September.
