Kotipalli Temple Sthala Puranam.. The Sacred Land of Three Divine Shrines

Kotipalli is a historic pilgrimage centre situated on the banks of the Gautami Godavari, near Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh. According to the traditional Sthala Puranam associated with the temple, the sacred site has connections with several Hindu legends and is believed to have been a place where Lord Vishnu performed penance in his Vamana form. The temple complex is particularly notable for the presence of three important shrines dedicated to Siddhi Janardhana Swamy, Koteshwara Swamy and Chhaya Someshwara Swamy.

According to the temple tradition, Sage Kashyapa installed Siddhi Janardhana Swamy, who is worshipped along with Sridevi and Bhudevi. The Koteshwara Lingam is traditionally associated with Indra and the legend of his seeking relief from a curse. The Chhaya Someshwara Swamy shrine is linked to the story of Chandra, who is believed to have regained his radiance after performing penance and worshipping Lord Shiva with Bilva leaves. Maha Shivaratri, Vaishakha Shuddha Ekadashi Kalyanotsavam, Sharannavaratrulu and Karthika month celebrations are among the important observances at the temple.
