Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced that the Centre has allocated the Tadicherla 2 coal block to Telangana. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, he said the decision was taken to strengthen the state's development, secure the future of Singareni Collieries, and create more employment opportunities for workers.
The minister said the issue was taken up with the Prime Minister after several rounds of discussions with Singareni officials. He added that the allocation was approved on the Prime Minister's directions and that the coal block has been allotted directly instead of through an auction.
According to Kishan Reddy, the allocation is expected to generate an additional ₹16,000 crore in revenue for Telangana. The block has the potential to produce 6 million tonnes of coal annually for the next 40 to 50 years and contains high quality G8 grade coal. The project is also expected to create around 1,500 jobs in Naini and 1,200 jobs in Tadicherla.
