Khairatabad By-Election Heat Rises After Seat Falls Vacant

The Khairatabad Assembly constituency has officially been declared vacant following the disqualification of former MLA Danam Nagender. The Telangana government has issued a gazette notification declaring the seat vacant, with the vacancy being effective from April 23, 2024. The Telangana High Court had earlier disqualified Nagender from the Assembly, holding that the disqualification took effect from the date he contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate while being a BRS MLA.

The Supreme Court subsequently dismissed Nagender’s challenge and upheld the High Court’s disqualification order, clearing the way for the Khairatabad Assembly seat to be filled through a by-election. The latest developments have intensified expectations of an election in the constituency, although the official schedule and polling date will be announced by the Election Commission.
