Key Reforms for Traffic Control in Telangana

The Telangana government has decided to establish a dedicated Traffic, Road and Rail Safety Bureau, known as TG TMAARS, to strengthen traffic management and road safety across the state. An officer of ADGP or IG rank will be appointed as its director. The bureau will oversee traffic management and enforcement, while focusing on patrolling highways, expressways and the Outer Ring Road. It will also conduct scientific investigations into road accidents and intensify monitoring of drunk driving, helmet violations and overspeeding.

An additional SP-rank traffic post will be created in every district, while 300 posts from the existing traffic wing will be transferred to the new bureau. Traffic personnel will be equipped with body-worn cameras to improve monitoring and enforcement. The government has also proposed establishing a State Traffic Training Academy to provide specialised training to traffic personnel and strengthen road safety measures across Telangana.
