

A high level meeting with Telangana auto workers’ unions will be held at the Secretariat today at 4 pm to discuss issues concerning auto drivers. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Labour Minister Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy will lead the meeting, which will also be attended by senior officials from various departments and representatives of auto workers’ unions. The meeting will mainly discuss the proposed Auto Welfare Board, suggestions from auto unions on the Aggregator Policy and the demand for an increase in meter fares.
The meeting will also consider financial assistance of ₹1.50 lakh for retrofitting diesel and petrol autos, a proposal recently approved by the Cabinet. Representatives of the Auto Unions JAC had met Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on the 23rd of last month and submitted several demands concerning drivers’ welfare. The minister has directed senior officials to attend the meeting with complete information and asked the Transport Commissioner to invite JAC representatives. The government is examining the issues positively and discussions will focus on measures that can provide relief to auto drivers at the earliest.
