Key Details Emerge During Mallesh’s Interrogation

Police have reportedly gathered key details while questioning Upputholla Mallesh, the accused in the arms theft case at the Madras Regiment premises in Bolarum. Mallesh, who had served in the Madras Regiment for around 16 years, allegedly used his familiarity with the armoury and its security arrangements to plan the theft. Police said he chose the day believing that the movement of guards and Army officials would be relatively limited. Mallesh was dismissed from service in June on disciplinary and health-related grounds, and investigators have said that his alleged resentment towards his former superiors could have been a motive.

Police further said Mallesh allegedly intended to sell the stolen weapons and use the proceeds to address his financial difficulties. Investigators reportedly examined his social-media activity and communication records as part of the probe. Police also questioned Army personnel and examined CCTV footage, call records and other digital evidence to establish whether anyone else was involved. Authorities have said the investigation is continuing and that the exact role of any other individuals will be determined based on evidence.
