The Telangana Cabinet has taken several key decisions concerning government employees, drought preparedness and the State’s economy. The Cabinet approved the release of two pending Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments for government employees and retired employees, with the remaining arrears to be cleared in phases. The decision is expected to impose an additional annual financial burden of around ₹2,500 crore on the State exchequer. The Cabinet also discussed El Niño conditions and the rainfall deficit of around 17 per cent. A Cabinet Sub-Committee will examine the drought situation and suggest relief measures, while an all-party meeting and consultations with farmers’ groups and experts are also planned. The State will seek appropriate assistance from the Centre for drought-affected areas.
The Cabinet directed officials to make arrangements for procuring around 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the kharif season. With Telangana’s peak power demand touching a record 19,892 MW, the government decided to procure adequate electricity to avoid power cuts. It also approved plans for around 7,800 MW of new renewable generation and energy storage capacity, comprising 3,000 MW of solar power, 4,000 MW of battery energy storage and 800 MW of wind power. Other decisions included expediting the integrated fruit market at Koheda, suspending 10 incomplete EPC irrigation projects, approving a dedicated digital media advertising policy, sanctioning a Deputy Commissioner post at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi and appointing four additional Group-I officers in the national capital.
