Amid rising concerns over paper leak incidents in entrance examinations, the Ministry of Education is preparing to introduce key reforms in admissions for medical and engineering courses. The government is considering giving 50% weightage to board exam marks along with entrance test scores. The move aims to bring greater transparency, reduce overdependence on coaching centres, and align entrance exams more closely with the academic syllabus, according to reliable sources.
Officials stated that reforms are also being explored to gradually shift towards computer-based testing and strengthen evaluation systems. A nine-member committee formed last year is currently working on the proposal and is expected to submit its final report to the central government in the coming weeks. At present, admissions are conducted through exams like NEET and JEE. However, recent irregularities, including paper leaks and intense pressure from coaching culture, have prompted the government to rethink the existing system.
