The Keralam Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The resolution raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the alleged exclusion of eligible voters and questions surrounding the impartiality of the Election Commission. The move is believed to be the first resolution of its kind passed by a legislative assembly in the country.
The resolution was moved by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, who called for addressing alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process. It also urged the restoration of voting rights for all eligible voters who had allegedly been wrongfully excluded from the rolls. The resolution highlighted concerns over the protection of voting rights and the need to address complaints related to the revision exercise.
