The Karnataka government has decided to confer a special honour on teachers by introducing ‘Tr’ (Teacher) as a prefix before their names. The decision was announced by Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at an event held in Kudligi of Vijayanagara district on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day. The move is aimed at recognising the importance and contribution of teachers in society.
Explaining the decision, Shivakumar said that professional prefixes are already used to recognise doctors and professors, and teachers should also receive a similar distinction. He stated that the Karnataka Cabinet had recently passed a resolution to introduce the ‘Tr’ prefix for teachers. The announcement marks a unique recognition of the teaching profession and is expected to give teachers an additional sense of identity and respect.
