Kaleshwaram Barrage Restoration Soon – Minister Uttam

Telangana Irrigation Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has announced that comprehensive restoration works on the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme will begin in the second week of November and be completed before the 2027 monsoon. He said the government has finalised the restoration designs, with measures including foundation strengthening through grouting, extension of stilling basins and construction of new cut-off walls. The works are aimed at improving foundation stability, controlling flood flows and preventing seepage beneath the structures.

The minister said the designs were prepared after considering recommendations and observations from the National Dam Safety Authority and other expert bodies. The proposed designs are being tested at the Central Water and Power Research Station in Pune using computational fluid dynamics models. The designs will be placed before the Central Water Commission’s Technical Oversight Committee in New Delhi on October 5 for review and recommendations. Uttam Kumar Reddy said restoration would be carried out strictly according to scientific studies and national technical agencies’ recommendations, with stringent quality standards, independent testing and continuous monitoring.
