The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on ‘One Nation, One Election’ has highlighted the possible economic and administrative benefits of conducting simultaneous Lok Sabha, Assembly and local body elections across the country. Speaking at a press conference in Gandhinagar, JPC Chairperson and Lok Sabha MP P. P. Chaudhary said the proposal could help India save nearly ₹7 lakh crore in election-related expenditure.
He further stated that holding elections simultaneously would improve governance efficiency by reducing repeated election cycles and administrative disruptions. According to the committee’s estimates, the move could also boost India’s GDP growth by up to 1.6%. The proposal continues to remain a major topic of political discussion and debate across the country.
